Tamarind or imli is a common ingredient readily available in Indian households. While many of us use it for sambhar, rice and other delicacies, you will be amazed to know that it is also a natural healer that works as a protective shield against many illnesses. It is suggested to drink tamarind juice in this season and this piece of information explores its benefits and how one can make it at home:
First of all, wash 50 gms tamarind under running water and remove all its seeds. Now, boil two glasses of water and add washed tamarind. Allow it to boil for 3-5 minutes. Switch off the flame and sieve the drink. Let it cool down. Add 1 tsp honey and 2-3 ice cubes. Your homemade tamarind juice is ready, that is suggested to be consumed during summer and monsoon season, only after consulting a doctor.

According to health experts, regular consumption of tamarinds improves your gut health. It contains a high amount of potassium bitartrate, malic and tartaric acid that improves the digestive system. It also contains high amount of fiber that helps flush the toxins.

The rich fibre content is directly connected to weight loss. Also, it contains a compound called hydroxycitric acid (HCA) which is connected to weight loss, as it inhibits an enzyme that helps store fat.

If you are looking for a natural skin solution, start drinking tamarind water, as the pulp contains alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), which is known for its exfoliating properties. It removes blemishes, and keeps your skin clear.

It is also rich in antioxidants that help reduce oxidative damage to LDL cholesterol and also contains plant compounds that may protect against heart disease and oxidative damage.
